Technical Lead

We’re looking for a hands-on Technical Lead to lead our team of talented engineers on the path of transforming how trust is established online.

THE ROLE

You will be a core member of our Product function, leading a team of five engineers to power PassFort’s product and turn our vision into reality.

Technical leadership

First and foremost, you’ll be a technical expert. You’ll be hands-on with code and a contributor in the team, thinking about everything from architecture, security and performance, all the way through to feature UX.

You’ll also play a key role in building our engineering strategy and defining our roadmap. We’re looking for someone to bring new ideas and become an integral part of the process to continuously improve our product.

You’ll be able to break down technical ideas into simple and effective plans - ensuring responsibilities are agreed and communicated within the team, and they have great context on ‘why’ we’re building something and how this fits into the bigger picture. You’ll prioritise and manage delivery taking a high-level view of our stack and architecture, ensuring we’re building scalable solutions and resolving issues (or empowering others to resolve them) when needed.   

People management

You’ll help to grow and develop a high functioning team as we scale. We’re invested in building a collaborative culture where we work together to foster innovation and development.

You’ll help embed engineering best practice and delivery standards, and evolve the technical expertise of the team through coaching. You take a leading role in code reviews, championing good communication & the value of clear and actionable feedback. You’ll also be integral to supporting the process of recruitment and onboarding new members into the team.

Our stack

Our stack includes ES6 andReact, on the front-end, and Python and Rust on the back-end. We have a service-based architecture built on top of Kubernetes and Google’s Cloud Platform. We’re very flexible when it comes to adopting new technologies and techniques. We listen to our team and implement tools they decide are best to complete the projects they are leading.

 

What we are looking for

  • A proven track record with relevant experience as a Senior Software Engineer
  • Ability to calmly and quickly act to fix a problem in a crisis and help the team understand what went wrong and how to avoid it in the future
  • Commercial mindset, for you to work to continuously improve the quality of our codebase; identifying when refactoring is necessary
  • An experienced Engineer who is seeking to become a Team Lead, with any relevant experience managing a team, perhaps on projects you have lead in the past
  • A confident communicator who possesses essential skills to develop into a great team manager
  • Desirable - experience in a startup, or similar dynamic culture
  • Deep knowledge of either Python or Javascript, and at least a working knowledge of the other.
  • Experience with React a plus.
  • Experience with Rust would also be great.
  • Experience in DevOps (particularly Kubernetes) a plus.
